    His actual date of birth remains unknown, but is traditionally observed on 23 April, Saint George's Day. Intwo early drafts of sonnets and appeared in The Passionate Pilgrimpublished under Shakespeare's name but without his permission. He did that by killing as many potential rivals as possible. Early in his career Shakespeare wrote a series of plays about English history largely based on Holinshed. Having taught Lilly for the first time earlier this year, I am a new convert to his work.

    And where did the framing image come from? These ground-breaking chronicles gave rise to more Renaissance plays than any other source, including Shakespeare's histories, King Lear, Macbeth, and Cymbeline. The central panel of information however was exactly the same as the UCC Holinshed. I highly recommend this book to all those interested in Shakespeare's inner life.

    An examination of Macbeth and Shakespeare's sources leads us to formulate several conclusions concerning the motives behind the dramatists alterations. By William Blakec. Earlier dramatists had occasionally used the same material there were, for example, the earlier plays called The Famous Victories of Henry the Fifth and King Leir.
