Unlike Pig, Emma has never worn a wig, but she is thinking of buying one—a red one, of course. Make and Try On Wigs If you don't have any dress-up wigs to show off already, it can be a lot of fun to make your own out of yarn. It has crazy action at times! Whether you do one or all, I hope you have a lot of fun with these ideas to supplement the Pig in a Wig books! There are lots of details on the pages, but they are not cluttered so I think it's great for emerging readers.

Saturated digital illustrations are funny and easy to read, especially when the sounds are set in display type next to the corresponding animals. Try racing them in a stream or floating them in the bath tub. I have found myself choosing to review more picture books and middle grade books, just because it's fun. My thoughts: Who knew that a story starring a pig in a wig could be so delightfully fun?!

Oh man, those rhymes were too fun. She knows the routine: tub, brushed teeth, combed hair, clean sheets, and a stuffed animal. After giving a full five stars to her first book and then listing it as a favorite ofit's not hard to say that I had pretty high expectations for this book. While "neigh" might be hard to decode for some new readers, the placement of that word right next to the horse's open mouth makes it a snap. On one level, it's all so straightforward, but on another it's absurd and grows increasingly so. Eat Some Strawberry Mice This is one mouse you'll want in the house.

What this story needs is a hush and a shush book

This big-haired pig just wants some shut-eye. My little reader was especially enthralled by the bees found on several of the pages. You might need to be prepared for an immediate picnic after reading this book.

Research an Animal—Pick your favorite animal from the book and do a little bit more research. Float or Sink? Animal Masks—Decorate your own printable animal masks from First Palette and have some animal fun!

Bonus points for rhyming! Emma J. Virjan hides a lot of pig snouts in the Reminds me of Green Eggs and Ham. There are lots of details on the pages, but they are not cluttered so I think it's great for emerging readers.

You could even float your origami boat in the moat! Are certain folding designs better at floating than others? Alone or With Friends? Ages 4—8. Dance, cartwheel, hop on one foot or whatever suits your fancy. How Much Cargo until it Sinks? I was a little slowed down by having to read it 5 times by request. Unlike Pig, Emma has never worn a wig, but she is thinking of buying one—a red one, of course. Date of publication: January 26, Age: 5 - 8 years Themes: bedtime, farm animals, animal sounds, sleep Pig is back with her wig and another adventure with some animal friends.

But just because it has simple rhymes, simple words, don't mistake it for a dull story where little happens. And it seemed a little less accessible by early readers, with some more complicated vocabulary and a slightly more complex storyline. So, I just discovered A Pig in a Wig books. On the contrary, it again had adorable illustrations the duck cuddling with the wig!

Why wouldn't there be? On one level, it's all so straightforward, but on another it's absurd and grows increasingly so.

I love all the ways the animals react to the rat and then the skunk--and then for some reason, there's suddenly a panda in a blouse. Jun 30,  · What this Story Needs is a Hush and a Shush by Emma J. Virjan. I loved her first “Pig in a Wig” book and this follow-up is equally as enjoyable (though I still like the first one best). Pig is trying to go to sleep, but she’s having a hard time with all the noise of .
